Y is Y, Y question that? YUP is a restricted Y fare. But even AA is a bit confused about YUP sometimes, as I've been doled 1.5 EQPs and 1.0 EQPs for YUP, and even had a EXP desk agent tell me I only got 1.0 EQPs for a YUP ticket. (Given I'd already made EXP for 2005, I decided not to bother calling back; if it had mattered, I would have.)

And the EQP is based on the fare basis, not where you sit, just as when you upgrade with miles, VIPs or 500 mile upgrades, you earn on the fare basis you paid for your ticket, again, not where you sit.

See AA's 2004 Elite Qualification Requirements page for more information.

By the way, on a related question to the one the OP asked: if you have a YUP ticket and you standby for (and take) a flight that has no A availability but does have coach, and you end up flying in coach, will you still get the 1.5 point multiplier?
