We were finally told that we could "cancel" (no-show) and get a travel credit for use on SQ (or as long as one leg was on SQ metal, other codeshare partners--we'll see about that) for travel on or before one year from the date the ticket was initially issued. We didn't have to pay upfront the $200/pp fee.
We realistically can't use the credit for travel until Nov Dec, so a couple of months wait until rebooking is worth it for us, both in terms of likely sale prices and determining what this coronavirus panic will do globally.
Glad you got this resolved. I had an SQ flight that I was supposed to be on a couple of weeks ago that I skipped because my cruises were cancelled and I had no need (or desire) to travel to Singapore at this time. I've emailed Singapore and they tell me to talk to my TA. I've contacted Chase a few times, they have contacted SQ and on the last call (the day before my scheduled flight), SQ told Chase to tell me to send email! I did so and the reservations people told me that they have emailed Chase with some sort of resolution but they have not responded and by the way they can't help me directly. I tried calling Chase last Friday but there was a one hour wait and I had to leave and could not take their return call. I haven't bothered to call back although I did email them at the address that SQ supposedly emailed. I haven't heard back.
I think your blaming Chase isn't really fair. First, they're actually Expedia and I would think they generally know what they are doing. Second, they are obviously getting hammered with calls (witness the one hour hold I had last Friday, and they actually didn't call me back for two hours). Third, SQ has been really uncooperative. Obviously it would have been easier had we booked with SQ directly, but I'm sure you must have used your UR points the same way that I did.
To be honest, if their best offer is credit that has to be used within a year of booking the flight, that is worthless to me. I booked last June and there is no way I am traveling there by this June. The earliest I would go is next January.
