Rmendi--this is an old string, but I think the gist of it is that sometimes they do "claw back" the points/miles in these situations, but often they don't. A couple possible workarounds: Try canceling via automated phone service on say a Sunday, which may lessen the chances of any order being given to revoke benefits. Try calling again and speaking to a different rep and seeing if you can switch to a non-yearly-fee card but keep the same account number. Or of course, just try using up all your bennies this year, then cancelling the card after using them up.
