One similar data point is I/my spouse have cancelled 4 DL Amex cards just prior to the card anniversary but just after the companion certificate has been issued to me in my DL wallet. All 4 times they said upon cancellation that the companion certificate would be revoked, but all 4 times it stayed in my wallet and I was able to still use it at a later date.
