I have a little recent experience with this to share that may be useful- I issued a one way award GRU-LHR to the other half and shortly afterwards changed the date. I had already sent the ticket out so I couldn't send it back in to BA- they said no problem, reservation is changed in the system, just go to the ticket desk on the day of departure to get one of those little yellow stickers.

In fact it wasnt needed at all, checkin just accepted the ticket with the old date on. I believe this is something of a hang over from the 'old days'- now they dont really care what your ticket says as long as the PNR matches whats in the computer. I had a similar experience on a revenue paper ticket where I changed one of the outward flights- no little yellow sticker (couldnt be bothered to go to the desk), accepted with no problems.

One thing to note is that we were not able to use online checkin. It transpires that whilst the check in agents dont really care about the little yellow stickers, online checkin does- and without the ticket having being 'revalidated' it wont let you checkin. Not sure how it knows but I assume there's something in Amadeus that gets changed once the little yellow sticker has been issued. It kept saying "booking has not been completed by your agent" which was of course BA.
