Can you clarify if elite status allows lifetime points from expiring which a Marriott employee wrote to me in an email stating?

OR
IS this applicable and teh MB employee is misinformed?
"Marriott Bonvoy: Once you earn elite status, it will be valid for the rest of the calendar year in which you've earned it and an additional 14 months after that.”
I became GOLD elite in Oct 2019...so am I lifetime of expiring Feb 2021 or when Amex card is canceled?
