Don't know if you were lucky or if its just part of the award, but you were better off than me when I booked an award trip with AA miles on BA.

I had booked Club World LHR-SYD on BA and wanted a connecting flight to Brisbane. Normally when paying for J to Australia, 2 free domesitic J tickets are included. AA said it would be 25000 miles for a Y domestic 1 hour flight. The ticket cost £98 so not worth using up the points.

To be honest I wasn't expecting the domestic to be included, it would of been a nice surprise if it had though. As it was I was upgraded on inward leg, so a nice bonus!
