You could get it repaired and not have to deal with the insurance paperwork or you could just return and take your chances. If it's a small chip, there's a good chance it will go unnoticed at return and you don't have to worry about it.

Note that if you had rented with Hertz you would have been in luck as they can charge as little as $15 to repair a windshield chip.
