Part 1: Check-in and Room

Date: Mid-February 2020
Rate: two 35k free night certificates + one night on cash ($210 after taxes & fees)
Room booked: Garden Room, upgraded to a Solarium Suite before arrival w/ Platinum Status

Check-in: Upon check-in a bellhop grabbed our bags from the taxi and we walked into the lobby. Doors are open with no A/C, but a small breeze. We waited about 5 minutes for a front desk agent to become available. We were welcomed with cold hand towels and drink. The front desk agent asked for our passports and acknowledged my platinum status. The bellhop let us know he would wait with our bags in Spanish. My wife had a short conversation with him and as soon as the check-in agent heard her speak Spanish she no longer spoke to me. Instead, she spoke to my wife in Spanish and she had to translate as I'm not fully fluent in Spanish. Even though I spoke over and over to the agent in English she refused to speak to me. This would be a running theme throughout the resort. Three nights there any the only person who didn't try to avoid speaking in English was the concierge.

Check-in was slow and the agent spent no time mentioning any of the amenities of the resort. After seeing some reviews I'm now curious if access to the spa is included for gold and platinum members as I've seen some photos of a large hot tub and steam rooms and almost no one uses it. There are a lot of amenities and activities at this resort and it's a shame they aren't willing to spend any time detailing them or giving you any type of documentation that outlines what's available.

Room:
Solarium Suite takes up the entire top floor. It's basically two rooms and two patios combined. There are two rows of villas. The front row with a full ocean view and the second row which has a partial view. Each villa has one ocean view solarium suite and then on the back side has a garden view. Some of the ocean front villas have a plunge pool.

Each day there was an English newspaper printed and left on the patio.

The floor and furniture on our patio and balconies were never cleaned. They got dirty quickly and had bird droppings that you wouldn't want to sit outside, which is unfortunate with the great view.
