the requirement is to have a scheduled designed to meet the legal minimum rest period, to have a robust system in place for fatigue management including have a safety culture that encourages crew to identify when they are too fatigued to safely operate the flight.

As I say, you suggestion of not cutting it to the minimum rest period, which as I point out BA don’t, does not prevent sleep being interrupted by unplanned significant events that make it unsafe for the crew to operate the flight.
