Not the customers' problem. Part of the economic calculation is what it costs if you don't have a crew available for a scheduled flight for which the ticketed customers are available and expecting to travel.
BA apparently is saying in this case, the passengers incur whatever costs are associated with BA's inability to perform contractually.
I think that's obviously a questionable operating procedure.
