Ugh, awful experience here. Two night stay. As Diamond members received no upgrade on check in (two rooms, both cash, both quite pricey compared to other Christchurch hotels). No Diamond recognition. No drinks vouchers. Concerning breakfast, an oral announcement that, as of March 1, Diamonds are only entitled to two breakfasts per member (not four, and not two per room). Rooms are small, dingy, dark. Asked for a rollaway in one room and told there's a 60.00 uncharge - even though we are two adults and two children in two rooms (prefer one adult two children in one, one adult in the other, for best sleep...)
Breakfast truly awful, undercooked bacon and plastic eggs that were either solid or runny in the same pan... Poor quality pastries. No card or anything to say whether they were offering custom eggs for an upcharge.
After complaining about dingy room for first night (stained carpet, desk with wood-effect peeling off, curtains that didn't fit), an upgrade for one room for the second night. Accept. Get a room with a little balcony and a bathroom window that doesn't fit. Very nice young man comes up with tape, and tapes it up. Ok. Whole room stinks of cleaning chemicals (possibly carpet cleaner...)
Check out. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Get charged 38.00 twice for the first day, for the two "full" breakfasts for two kids, plus 10.00 upcharges for the two Diamond breakfasts because we'd had hot food (not told on check-in Diamond benefit was only Continental). Told desk person we didn't even eat the eggs, and one child had essentially one piece of bacon. Met with blank stare and given partial credit for half a breakfast (not explained). Cannot believe I ended up paying for this breakfast on the first day. Amusingly, it was so awful that on the second day, kids had one bowl of cereal each and I had two flat whites, for which I paid in cash ($9) since I didn't get any certificates, or even know about them until I read the post upthread. They might have stopped them now, or it might have been the front desk incompetence - who knows. Long lines every time I went near the front desk.
Overall, the rooms in this place are dated, dark, depressing. Even the famous cookies were, according to my kids, cold, hard and stale. No diamond recognition. Very poor quality breakfast. Overpriced. Absolutely no attempt to ask about the stay, or rectify the issues I raised at the desk on checkout - no interest in anything except getting the credit card charged.
Avoid. I go to Hiltons because I expect, as a Diamond, a level of sameness and quality. This was like a bad motel from the 90's.
