Heck in many locals if you get an ambulance cause you or someone dialed 911 etc, theres a very good chance you'll be receiving a bill for it.
I have a friend here in NYC who had a bit much to drink one night. He wanted to go home, but an overzealous medical student insisted on calling an ambulance. He got to the hospital, where they told him he was drunk and should go home and go to sleep. A week later he got a US$1300 bill for the ride to the hospital.
