I stayed here and at the DoubleTree as had several flights through MAN.

The DoubleTree is nicer in every respect although the train can be a bit useless between Picadilly and MAN. On one occasion, I had to wait 50 mins for a train!

At this hotel, I was given a recently refurbished room on the 5th floor. It was clean, warm and comfortable and although I could hear aircraft it did not bother me at all.

The refurbishment is not of the highest quality. The bathroom door had been repainted but remained a hollow core interior door that was not finished particularly well. The bathroom tiles and grout were clean and white and the tiling was done to a satisfactory standard but it still felt cheap and dated. The sanitaryware and faucets were also cheap and metal shower rail had already cracked and was on the way out. The shower was a bit underpowered for my liking and was in a plastic bathtub (which I dislike) but had a good temperature range. The room was quite small with a queen sized bed, but was comfortable enough.

I ordered a burger from the room service which was decidedly average for £16. I would eat elsewhere in the future.

The breakfast was pretty standard Hilton with some extra stuff like ratatouille. The hash browns were below standard and the scrambled egg looked awful (Hampton Innish). Aside from the hot stuff it was fine though.

The shuttle took a while to collect me as I waited 30 mins for it. I could have walked it in 10 mins but it was very cold.

Overall for the price it wasn't too bad as it was warm, quiet and comfortable. But it is one of the worst Hiltons I have come across.

I think the main problem is the 1980s building it is in. It is made of a cheap red brick, nasty cheap roof tiles and brown aluminium frame windows. With the low ceilings inside and cheap hollow frame interior doors it has a county council library or health centre feel to it more suited to a Travelodge than a Hilton. There has been some effort to improve things (new lobby carpet etc) but the building is just not suited to house a reasonably good hotel!

I would stay again if the price was right.
