Also FYI if you have an Android phone (not sure if iphones will do this) there is a security setting called "use randomized mac" on some of them in the settings of the wifi network name. I have found, on Delta, United and Air Canada, if this is set to use a randomized MAC, instead of the phones actual MAC, it will either not associate properly, not log in, or even stop working halfway through the flight.
Since forcing this to use the phone MAC on all airlines, it's been much more reliable.
I've noticed this too, although I feel like it was an issue on some E75 flights recently but not mainline, so could depend on which generation of WiFi service. But I'm not keeping careful track and I'm probably working from an insufficient number of data points anyway...
