? about refund/credit
Hi all,
Was hoping to get some advice/thoughts on my situation.
Originally purchased AF-marketed LAX/CDG return ticket in J via Amex IAP. (Flights are in April.) Return flight (AF72) was cancelled and I was rebooked same-day on the 3:50pm Delta metal flight. (2.5 hour change)
I called Amex, they told me that it is an "open exchange" and that I would need to contact AF in order to do anything regarding the ticket. I called AF/DL/KLM and was told I was eligible for a full refund. I told them I would call back, as I needed to see if I could shift around a meeting I was supposed to attend when I returned to LA. I ended up shifting a few things around and purchased another RT ticket in December (via Amex IAP) based on my conversation with the AF/DL/KLM rep the previous day.
When I called back the next day to get a refund on the April ticket, I was told I would not be eligible due to the fact that the delay/cancellation needed to be greater than 5 hours. I asked to speak to a supervisor and explained that I was told the previous day that I would be eligible for a full refund and that I had already bought another ticket, her reply was basically that not only was the previous rep wrong, but that she couldn't do anything for me due to the open exchange and that I needed to call AF direct in France, and proceeded to give me the following phone #: 33 09 69 39 36 54
My questions are 1) Has anyone had to deal with this a similar type situation? I speak French fluently, but experience tells me that I would get better results dealing with Amex or AF/DL/KLM stateside... 2) Whose rules am I bound by here? Amex? AF? Both? 3) Would I have a better shot of getting them to approve a credit versus a refund? I fly transatlantic several times a year, and could easily use it to purchase another ticket at some point if that option will require less time spent arguing on the phone.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice... If this is a lost cause, I can still just go and enjoy myself for once and visit family without any work obligations, though my business partner probably will not be thrilled, ha.
