Being at the Waldorf feels like being in suburbia, sure you get a bigger house, but your immediate surroundings are boring and sterile compared to the alternative...

I heard from a long-timer supervisor at Hilton that as long as you're well outside the cancellation period they come back within a few seconds, basically immediately. There could be only one possible reason if points are not coming back to folks who are cancelling redemption bookings at this property and that would be because they've got some special hold on them and don't release them immediately. I doubt this is the case and assume that if the above criterion are met and they don't come back immediately, Hilton IT is to blame. And believe me, their IT department doesn't exactly have the best reputation.
