I know I've seen these in lots of airports, but that sight and sound will always remind me of my days backpacking through big European railway stations more than anything else.
In most airports, you don't really need to look at the board. (You just look at your phone to find your gate and flight status.) For trains, the big board was where everybody got their track number.
