The FT 'oneworld' forum is without doubt your best source of advice for all things RTW - I've done two now ex CAI and OSL.
For what it's worth I found the itineraries much easier to plan going Westbound and didn't have any jet lag to speak of.

As for who to ticket with, I used BA - get the right agent and you will not have any issues (although I do suggest politely hanging up and calling again when the first thing they say on seeing the itinerary is 'oh great, I've not seen one of these before....)
