Reading the second page of this thread, I realize how much effort is going into protecting oneself from the car rental company itself. Of the three legs of business travel — air, hotel, and car rental — the last is the most historically egregious in terms of customer abuse. Why, given the ubiquity of ride share now, would anyone want to rent a car? I haven't done so in years and am definitely happier and richer for it.
