With or without “REAL ID” ID, the no-fly and watch lists can be readily circumvented for domestic travel by those who want to do so and know what they are doing from the ticket booking process to the TSA TDC process with an airline boarding pass; and I doubt that October eliminates those methods to workaround these blacklists domestically with and without any illegal ID shenanigans .... even assuming this October is different than the previous “deadlines” when it comes to air travel by common carrier means.
The no-fly list doesn’t detect and interdict prohibited weapons, explosives and incendiaries, whether or not a passenger uses “REAL ID” or anything else for identification. The watch lists that result in secondary screening may detect and interdict prohibited WEIs; but given the watch lists can be circumvented in the same manner as the no-fly list and use of mules remains a threat vector, ID- based-reliance for selection is a poor stepchild to truly random selection ...... and this too is something that won’t really change in October.
Dropping the “ID is security “ and “Real ID is real security” ideas would free up TSA resources for better WEI interdiction .... and yet any move toward further ID-based security screening of domestic passengers just keeps the dog and pony show acts rolling on and on in the name of “security” in this theater and consuming resources that could actually be used to better detect and interdict prohibited WEIs.
