This was alluded to in the previous post, but wanted to make it explicit : on longer flights, aircraft will typically step climb, meaning that the initial cruising altitude might be 34000, but as more fuel is burned and the aircraft can fly at a higher (more efficient) altitude, it will climb up to 36, 38, etc.
