Answering my own question: the entire trip, from the minute I emerged from Terminal 3's G3 till I landed in the BA lounge near gate M12 in Terminal 5, took a little more than an hour. About 40 minutes were dedicated to waiting for the bus, and in particular to watching in awe as the young woman who was in charge of the operation (Samantha?), who totally looked as if she as high on something, was doing everything in her power to mess things up. The bus brought us to the edge of Terminal 5, near gate M1, which looked like a circus area after the circus had left town, dirt and garbage included. I have no idea how much time it would have taken landside, but the experience did not leave me yearning for my next ORD connection.

If my connecting flight had not been delayed one hour I would have surely missed it.
