How many of your problems come from their asinine rules and how many come from them not knowing or following the rules that are there, asinine or not? I have long felt that if the TSA clerks were just required to follow the actual rules and would get fired for not knowing or following the rules, that would remove about 90% of the aggravation.
It wasn't until a year or two ago that I learned about the "command voice;" before that I always thought it was just yelling. I have had clerks at JFK(!) who didn't know what a NEXUS card was and used what I now know is their "command voice" to refuse to look at the list of acceptable ID that I was trying to get them to look at. TWO times this happened to me; once there were FOUR clerks including a supervisory clerk trying to figure it out and failing. Another time at JFK T1 a clerk wanted to see my passport instead of my driving license (I was caught flatfooted and could 't get to my NEXUS card without holding up the line a little bit), I kept asking her why, she kept repeating that she needed to see my passport, finally she called for a supervisor who called somebody on the radio (what he said I don't know), took my driving license, made the little marks on my boarding pass, and sent me on through.
What is the sense in this? Do these people not understand that the only people who are going to make trouble and try to get the clerks to follow the rules are just regular passengers who mean no harm? A terrorist is just going to do every foolish thing the clerks want done, make no wave, say yes sir, no sir, and pass through the checkpoint with no muss, no fuss.
