1. The question is not asking you to declare prescription medicines. You only have to declare prescription medicines you are carrying that have been prescribed to someone else. If you purchased a medicine that does not require a prescription then logically it cannot be prescribed to someone who isn't you. (the expectation otherwise would be that you declare the bottle of aspriin you're carrying)
2. Medicines and supplements don't need to be declared unless they are controlled substances (or the scenario in 1 above).
The reasoning behind the question is to stop people bringing medicines in to sell. That's why they have the three month supply limit, which not coincidentally is the duration of a tourist visa.
You're way overthinking this whole thing.
