BGY - Milan Bergamo Airport - I
l Caravaggio Orio al Serio International Airport.
I so wanted to be able to recommend this for B2B and creative routings, but alas the use of bus transfers and no direct route back to airside means that it gets red blobs in the ratings above. So it's bus, Schengen immigration, landside, main security, a long walk and then Schengen security It's not to say it's impossible, just not one that can be recommended. I tried it earlier this week, I wasn't doing a B2B, indeed I was doing a transfer on to one of Mr. o'Leary's finest. As it happened, I would have managed a B2B no problem at all, we arrived into BGY a full 43 minutes ahead of schedule and I was landside 27 minutes before we were due to land, but that was due to a strong tail wind.
The timings in my case were (CET)
18:45 land
18;47 remote stand
18:53 got into bus (this was slightly delayed by our very early arrival)
18:57 bus leaves
19:00 Schengen immigration (there was a Corona virus temperature check on all of us but that only added a few seconds)
19:03 fully landside - BGY has a good set of e-gates for passports
19:06 Fast Track main security
19:10 Fully airside - security was efficient, similar system to MXP, then a huge Stansted style mandatory 500 metres walk through the shops
19:17 Schengen emigration gates, with the BA gate just beyond.
So gate to gate would be 30 minutes.
Now the BA turnarounds at BGY are 50 minutes most days, 60 minutes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, plus I suspect the timetable is somewhat padded, BA2700 has an astonishing 98% on time arrival figure, only one delayed flight in the last 53 days.So it is definitely do-able particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when BA2700 is flying at a relatively quiet time for LGW. However the bus factor and the long walk airside means it really isn't a great one for beginners (or anyone else really).
It's a pity really - BGY is Italy's third largest airport and it does fly to a good range of places very cost effectively. So BA + FR would allow you to get from LGW to TLV for just £38 single for example, or Yerevan for £45, LGW to Tbilisi for around £50. BGY also participates in a Kiwi's separate ticket insurance scheme.

A few other notes
- the airport has 2 lounges, one of which is a landside facing lounge that includes luggage check-in, like Genoa and Bologna. It provides a route to the fast track security lane, it is available for BA CE and Sapphire plus customers, it's also available for Priority Plus cardholders, so they too get Fast Track. This is useful since otherwise it could easily take 15 minutes to get through main security. The second lounge is just after security, it's on the right side of the corridor of shops, it would be easy to miss.
- BA departs from the B gates along with the other non Schengen flights, this is a very long walk, here is the map of airside, security is top right, you go to the end and then back again.....

- BGY is building a row of new airbridges, they look about 6 months off completion, maybe that will help matters eventually.
- Currrently BA's fares to BGY are very low, as it is a fairly new route, the cheapest ET single is £29.72, £44.92 return. CE is £87 single or £146 return, which is also among the cheapest available.
