On ANA, you can use your miles to book award tickets (return trips only) or upgrade existing ANA/star alliance cash tickets (eligible fares only).
For awards, log into your AMB account (link) and then search for awards. Return trips only. Once you get the award availability, and have the mileage balance to pay for it, then you proceed with purchase.

In short, one website/program points utilization method will definitely not apply to another website/program method. The Finnair method wont work on ANA of course.
