I'm flying LHR to DUB with BA arriving at 8am, and currently have booked on the 950am Air Lingus Code Share return to LHR to connect to a flight to LAX. If I wanted to do a free on-the-day flight change to the 910am BA flight to LHR would that be allowed? I am only travelling with hand-baggage so wondered whether I would even need to leave airside if I changed my flight and checked-in online?

Without wanting to worry you, your flight selections have left you in the worse situation if there is any delay on your London - Dublin flight. In future if you want to do a same day turn, then a true b2b flight (where you return on the same plane) is the best option. If your BA flight into Dublin is cancelled or delayed you will miss your Aer Lingus starting flight and thus your entire itinerary will be cancelled.
