Thanks! That got me to look further. When I looked up my allowance in the UA website, logged in, it has only two rows: LAX-STT 2 bags free 70 lb each, STT-LAX same. (Meanwhile, Silver/Seaborne's website imply they won't accept anything over 50 lb.)
Follow-up: My bag was flown on the 7 am SJU-STT instead of my 4 pm flight. The UA app had no record of what happened after it was unloaded from the UA flight arriving SJU. The one truck load of checked bags didn't include mine and I had to go landside to the check-in counter to claim it.
