Or BA could consolidate the cabin to get as many people home as quickly as possible and then proactively offer compensation for doing so - I would offer a minimum of the miles that CE ticket would cost and potentially something above and beyond that. What does a BA Gold get buying CE that they wouldn't get in Economy, especially if they aren't checking a bag? 5-25GBP of food and drink (compared to BOB in Y) and sitting in the front of the plane? They already board in Group 1 and have lounge access.
