Apologies for the dull question. Can I use Silver status to select a seat on a short haul HBO fare?

Promise I’ve tried to avoid asking the question by doing my own research, but I’m finding mixed answers on various historic Flyertalk threads.

I’ll qualify as Silver on Wednesday this week after a day trip to Edinburgh. I have a HBO ticket booked for later this year to/from IST. Currently, there are a couple of exit row seats available and I’m not sure whether to part with £28 each way or wait until later this week in the hopes of reserving one for free.

Finally, one point that may be of interest to some. In the sticky (which I did read!) it states that; on regular economy fares (not HBO) Bronze members can pre-select seats within 7 days of departure, excluding exit rows. In fact, as a Bronze member myself currently, I was able to select exit row seats both to and from Edinburgh for my trip this coming Wednesday. Perhaps BA have relaxed this rule and possibly the sticky needs updating? Equally, I might have misunderstood... but I’m definitely booked into exit seating and would be pleased to post a screenshot as proof if required / helpful.
