As for the positioning flight, AY is by no means obligated to do anything but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Just had a surprisingly good experience with Cathay on this. Because of sudden travel restrictions in the Philippines, an original itinerary of MNL-HKG-AMS would turned into a quarantine in MNL and/or Not allowed to leave the Philippines to HKG anyway. Cathay was happy to change the itinerary to SIN-HKG-AMS. They charged a 40€ "office" fee. (To clarify, the pax was in SIN and realized that if they fly to MNL to catch their CX flight, they'd be f'd.)
Not saying that Janica would ever allow this, but saying that stranger things have happened under the current thing.
