Although, Wailea enjoys a bit more sunshine, and less winds, and might have a convenient coffee-shop nearby, it is in the middle of a burgeoning beach resort with hotels practically hugging each other. If looking for romance and a bit of isolation, Kapalua is (IMHO) a better choice. It just feels a bit more Hawaiian, and a lot less Miami Beach.
Congratulations. A honeymoon in Hawaii is special...
I've got to agree with this post. Not staying at the RC due to weather is a mistake in my book. Rain may fall, but only briefly and not every day. I've been to the RC twice, once for 2 weeks and once for 1 week, and in the two stays I've encountered rain on just a handful of occassions, and only once did it rain enough to keep me away from the pool & beach for a morning, and in that instance we just drove a little farther south until the rain stopped and hung out at Kaanapali Beach. I can't imagine that you'll get the same level of service at the Marriott, so I'd say that staying at the RC would be a better choice, especially if they've discounted the point requirement for a week's stay. 140,000 is a bargain.
