You make a very good point. UA is confused and conflicted in the way that it prioritises high status passengers vs high fare passengers. However, the direction of travel is clear: by making sure that high status passengers are also high revenue customers, things will, I suspect, change as they weed out the likes of me.
What's strange is that in LH/LX world, the high status passengers get the better lounge, and Business Class passengers get the more modest lounge. In UA world, high status passengers get the worse lounge, or none at all, whereas Business Class passengers either get a good lounge if travelling to certain destinations, or none at all if travelling to other destinations.
I know it’s very strange how FF benefits change as we go around the world. I mean LH even gives first class lounge access to Hon circle flyers and these lounges are much nicer than polris lounges and getting hon circle is less expensive than getting GS.
