But as I waiting for pushback on a connecting flight I finally got Edge followed very quickly by LTE indicator, and had immediate data service upon arrival in CPT.
Similar experience (including the SIM message) arriving into YVR this past weekend. Took SkyTrain into downtown and checked into a hotel, still had no data service. Finally tried rebooting and had full LTE very quickly thereafter. (Wifi was fine of course, but was curious about the cell service). Worked great the rest of the weekend.
Also, from a cruise I took in January that included Dubai, Muscat, Mumbai, Goa, Cochin/Kochi, Colombo, Phuket, and Singapore. Worked great and had LTE everywhere, except:
- my recollection is that in Muscat it took a looong time between "Welcome to Oman, we've got you covered" and actually having service. Although again that could've been due to the ship's position as we got closer and closer. No problems once close to shore though.
- seemed like signal in Goa varied a bit more between LTE, HSPA, and EDGE
