I read an interesting comment elsewhere suggesting that measuring the severity of this virus by the death rate is misplaced, at least at this stage. Severity is better measured now he suggested by the rate of ICU admissions, since that indicates the level of medical resources required to keep the death rate down. The problem of course is that those medical resources are finite. If the number of infections increases beyond the capacity of a care system to handle the infections, then at that point the death rate will start to increase.
