I don’t think it was settled. The case just wasn’t proof that an asymptomatic carrier could infect others, as it was originally thought. It didn’t prove the opposite either.
When you go out into the cold weather, you might cough, have a runny nose, etc. Imagine going up in a cable car with an infected person.
I have had a mild cough since I had a cold some three weeks ago. That is pretty normal in my lifelong experience. I don’t have a runny nose or other symptoms anymore. But when I get on a flight back to the US tomorrow I will be very careful to suppress my cough whenever possible. And no, I haven’t been to China in about seven years, Asia four years, no contact with travelers from China, not been near a cruise ship or conference. Fairly sure my cold was just that.
