Yes I avoid driving through Vail pass and Eisenhower tunnel during inclement weather, which is what you have to do when coming to Vail from DEN. Vail pass closed for 18 hours on Friday, and numerous times over the past few days and season in general. In 2019 Vail pass was closed 63 times. EGE is at 6540' (about 2000m) elevation and there are no passes between EGE and Vail and it is a 30 minute drive. I live here and opt for EGE during the winter, DEN not so bad for other times of the year and sometimes a better option when seasonal service has not yet resumed. ECO Bus runs hourly from EGE for $4/person to Vail Transportation Center and takes 1 hour due to stops, Uber around $60 last time I checked, door-to-door shuttle about $50/person. Note: Vail down valley (I-70) to/from EGE is not without its problems as Dowd junction (at Minturn between Vail and Eagle Vail) had a couple bad accidents that closed I-70 for hours, but I would still do EGE over DEN any day.
