Off topic, but may I ask how many points you use for that J round trip? Every time I checked Flying Blue for J from LAX to europe, it came back with 120,000+ one way. That's really high comparing to United's 70,000 one way. Maybe I am just not getting the lowest rate award tickets at the period I searched.
I just checked my emails and it was apparently 53,000 points per person one way. It may very well depend on where you're going (for instance, I don't think I ever saw that low of a point level just LAX-CDG) and when (early/mid May is on the cusp of the peak tourist season in Ireland). I was also trying hard to avoid going on the A380 since its J seat isn't nearly as nice as on the 77Ws.
Oh, I also booked two one ways instead of a single round-trip in the hope of improving our chances a bit.
