I didn't tip regularly, as the 10% service charge covers their tips, but I did secretly pass a few twenty dollar bills in a handshake to certain individuals who took great care of us, notably, my scuba diving instructor who coddled us like babies, our gym trainer who gave us a personal training session, and the guy in charge of my fishing during sunset fishing who helped me catch 6 fish.
I also handed a few fives when I ordered room service and water bottles, one guy gave me 6 bottles. When I came back out with a 5, he was already getting ready to leave before I flagged him back. I asked him if they accepted tips, and he looked extremely conflicted, as if he'd get in trouble if someone knew or something.
Everyone was very grateful for the tips but the gesture did catch them by surprise, like all of them shook my hand and looked at me for a good 5 seconds before they understood what was going on. I don't think they get tipped much, at least not in person.
