Sorry, these comments are incorrect and misleading and other posters are correct.

Firstly, the non-Schengen D-gates are D59 and LOWER. As other posters said, there are two levels with Schengen flights on the upper level. You will have no access to the upper level unless you pass through the Schengen passport check. However, as the UK is non-Schengen you do not do this.

From Canada you will arrive in the non-Schengen part of the airport, most probably D- or E-gates, and go straight to the departure gate for London, no passport check and probably no security check. I flew YUL-AMS-EDI in December and I am almost certain that I did not have to go through security, but maybe my memory is failing me.
