The D concourse is indeed split up in a Schengen and Non-Schengen section, gate D59 and higher are for Non-schengen flights. Depending on the aeroplane you arrive in you will either arrive here (on a 737) or arrive at the Embraer stand and be ferried by bus to the Non-Schengen area.
You will still have to go through security upon making a transfer for a non-schengen transfer.
It may be a bit of a walk from the D gates but - other than that - there should be nothing tricky about it.
He clearly says it is an International-International connection, I believe Canada is considered a 'safe' country so there is no security, and certainly won't be arriving on a 737 or Embraer!
