As for the streaming devices from Amazon, I was not being prescriptive in any way and asking people not to use them in their hotel room. Everybody has to decide for himself how much he cares about privacy.
I was merely pointing out that nowadays, many Android smartphones can replicate much of the functionality of a dedicated streaming device. I was also pointing out that if you still require a dedicated streaming device for Kodi and such, there are more privacy-conscientious options out there. E.g., you could run OpenElec/LibreELEC on a RPi 4. If you require more power (for certain things the RPi lacks the power or lacks hardware acceleration), there are Android TV boxes based on the Amlogic S905X SoC which again are capable of running more open and less invasive operating systems than Fire OS.

I tend to pack an old Apple TV 2, remote and HDMI cable which does a great job in hotel rooms. No need to connect it to the hotel wifi, as my iPad will connect vIa AirPlay to the ATV and I therefore pickup where I left off in the room on the big screen.
Works for me.
Just a tip if you want to save weight. You can directly connect your iPad to the TV with a lightning-hdmi adapter. I've used this with both an iPhone and iPad with great sucess. The iPad basically has all the same apps already as the apple TV.. negating the need to carry the second device.
