your flights can and will be booked as connections without a codeshare being available.

Your bags will be ticketed through. You collect them at ORD, clear customs and then drop them off. This does not been going to checkin, usually their is a "transfer bag drop" shortly after customs. yes your connection will be protected

You will clear immigration in ORD.No immigration again off the domestic flight
