i really don’t think people should be making decisions on which flight to take and who operates it just to try and be in line for some compo if the flight is delayed.

Very few flights are delayed so as EU261 would apply anyway. Make flight decisions based on issues you can assess yourself such as departure and arrival times and the comfort of the seats and the food offered.
