I was at Aman Tokyo a few weeks ago and something was missing.

I feel like since the buyout, many of the Aman properties are just... Without heart. Mechanized. Anodyne.

The room was fine, if not a little boring. The downstairs bar was lovely, but filled to the brim with tourists who were just there to have one drink, take a dozen (flash) photos and leave. The service was lackluster, which was a little shocking to me considering they're done me well in the past.

The whole visit made me want to go back to Amangiri almost immediately.
