We stayed at resorts often. The good hotel lounges offer two meals a day and they offer varieties of food. In most of the Caribbean countries, guests are not advised to go out to get food. Some offer food plan that can cost like $180 per person per day. Go to take a look at Bahamas Paradise Island.....
Resorts aren't my thing. I even managed to stay in Barbados for a week right on the beach without being in a resort by having access to an academic research facility. Going out to get food there was just fine - both restaurants and grocery stores.
