this shouldn't be hard, but I apparently haven't found the right search string to get my answer:

two no status pax traveling CLT-IAH next week.

currently, only middle MCE seats available on the flight, but a few preferred seats are open. if I pay for preferred seats, and then two in MCE open up, can I recoup the cost for the PE seat, or is that a sunk cost? thanks.
