Therefore if you see U between when it’s released and that sweep, anybody, even a regular MVP on a cheap fare, can jump ahead and grab.
I saw this happen on my flight last week. By means of a friend at AS, there were 4 open in F at T-24, U was 0. 18 hours in, still 4 F, but 10 on the UG list, including a friend that's a Gold (#1/#2).
At T-2, F was now 0, U still 0, 2 names vanished off the UG list (now 8), and my friends stayed in Y.
Was chatting with another friend, she said that 4 seats opened up in "U" and were probably taken by list jumpers or even sold to Y pax. She showed 3 pax in F who were not even MVP but on "U" UGs (2 paid, 1 mileage)... so take from that what you may.
