Looks to me that only weight matters as for example they allow using a large tub to hold irregularly shaped bags (and that would exceed the size limits if counted as baggage size).
my oversized bag (referenced in linked thread) was rejected by the self check kiosks as oversized (I think total linear dimensions were 170-171cm so well over). The oversized desk took it off me no dramas

per previous thread I was QFF SG at the time, which may or may not have helped


i’m intrigued by the idea of a 158cm carry on making it on board btw
